Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  When can I bring my new puppy home?

A:  Generally 8 weeks of age will allow a newborn pup the time necessary to be weaned, receive his first immunizations, eat dry dog food on his own and to more easily accept seperation from his littermates.  If you have a puppy on reserve before 8 weeks of age, we provide numerous weekly pictures by email and chronicle his developments, sharing with you as we care for him and you await his arrival.

Q:  Do you guarantee the health of your puppies?

A:  Yes.  We encourage you to take your puppy to the vet of your choice within 48 hours.  This will validate the good health of the animal.  You will also receive the pup's immunization records for the time the pup was in our care.  Some 60% of our puppies are placed into homes of repeat clients!  Other recommendations come from vets who examine our puppies.

Q:  Is it safe to ship my puppy by airplane?

A:  While nothing in this life can be 100 percent certain, at West Country, we have never lost a puppy en route to his new owner.  We take great care to make sure that your puppy is watched for developmental readiness and he is rechecked by our veterenarian only a few HOURS prior to boarding the flight.  We take care of all arrangements for you and we are in contact with you the night before, and immediately after check-in.  The puppy ships with Health Certificate, shot record, travel insurance, food and supplies.  In addition, we insist that our babies travel in temperature controlled cabins.  This is one of many ways that we keep our clients happy and our precious puppies safe.

Q:  If I am unable to keep the puppy, or if I change my mind, can I return him to West Country?

A:  Yes.  In the 15 years we have raised poodles, this has only happened twice.  We will glady accept back any poodle whose owner is unable or unwilling to keep him.  The return of the dog does not constitute a refund.

Q:  Are your poodles AKC Registered?

A:  Yes.  Every poodle at West Country is AKC Registered, averaging 5 generations of Championships in the immediate pedigree.  However, in an effort to place our puppies into loving pet homes, we provide substantial discounted pricing to clients who do not wish to pay for registration.  If you desire a puppy for breeding or for show, you must tell us.  Breed/Show prices reflect fair professional rates.

Q:  Can I contact you regarding my poodle (months or years) after I adopt him?

A:  Absoluletly!  At West Country, we are careful to respect your privacy.  Therefore, we will not call or pester you in any way.  However, some clients like to call, email, share update photos or ask questions.  We welcome the opportunity to help you (and your pet) as long as you like.
